Yard flooding and subsoil drainage · Holmview

Capiphon drainage and new lawn for a backyard

20 metres of Capiphon drain were installed and connected to the stormwater, an old pit in the lawn was removed and the backyard was re-turfed.

The problem

The backyard at this Holmview home needed subsoil drainage. The lawn was patchy and bare in places, and an old stormwater pit sat in the middle of the grass.

What we did

  • Installed 20 metres of Capiphon drain across the backyard
  • Made a new connection into the existing stormwater system
  • Installed 7 metres of 100 mm PVC pipe
  • Removed the old stormwater pit from the lawn and capped off its connections
  • Dug by hand near the gardens to protect the existing landscaping
  • Raised the ground level with 3 cubic metres of topsoil
  • Laid new Buffalo grass and put back the grass in the other areas we disturbed

The result

Capiphon sits just under the surface and draws water out of the soil along its whole length, then feeds it into the stormwater pipe. The yard now has drainage working under the lawn, the old pit is gone from the middle of the grass, and there is a new lawn on top.
