The problem
Two stormwater pipes in the front yard of this Helensvale home were broken. The site had already been assessed and the damage located with a drain camera, so we knew where each break was before we started digging.
What we did
- Carried out minor excavation at each break, rather than trenching the whole yard
- Cut out the damaged sections of pipe
- Joined in new pipe with replacement fittings
- Backfilled each hole and brought the ground back to its original level
- Put the lawn and garden back the way they were
Why it matters
A broken stormwater pipe lets water out into the soil instead of carrying it away. That can lead to soggy patches, washouts or water sitting against the house in heavy rain. Backfilling properly matters too, because loose soil over a repair tends to settle and leave a dip in the lawn.
Locating the breaks with a camera first keeps the digging small, so the repair is quicker and the yard is left close to how it was.
