The problem
This Burleigh Waters home was getting a new pool overflow system, and it needed a sewer connection to drain into. That meant a new sewer line through the backyard and a new overflow relief gully.
What we did
- Excavated about 10 metres of trench for the new sewer line
- Supplied and installed 100 mm PVC sewer pipe and fittings to suit the layout
- Installed a new overflow relief gully for the pool overflow
- Found the existing sewer vent shaft had not been extended to open air as required, and extended it
- Worked with the electrician so their conduit went into the same trench
- Bedded the pipe in drainage gravel, backfilled and left the site clean
All work was carried out to AS/NZS 3500, the plumbing and drainage standard.
Why it matters
A sewer vent lets gases escape and keeps the drains flowing properly, so it needs to finish above ground in open air. Picking up the short vent while the yard was already open meant it was fixed without a second dig. Sharing the trench with the electrician also saved digging up the same ground twice.
